HOW TO GET THERE?
As there are no commercial flights to Tiradentes, visitors must travel to Belo Horizonte or Rio de Janeiro and rent a car, buy a bus ticket, or hire private vans/cars to get there. The closest city is Belo Horizonte (the bride's hometown, so we highly recommend visiting) and it is a 3-hour drive to the wedding destination. There are only two flights to Belo Horizonte (CNF airport) from the US. Azul Airlines operates these flights, leaving on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Fort Lauderdale and Tuesdays and Sundays from Orlando.
Another nearby city is Rio de Janeiro, which is a 4-hour and 30-minute drive to the wedding destination. There are more options to get there from the US with American Airlines, Delta, and United.
You do not have to arrive directly in Belo Horizonte, especially if you plan to travel within the country. You can arrive, for example, in São Paulo, Salvador, or Fortaleza and then take domestic flights. These are generally not too expensive. They might not be as cheap as Spirit, but the prices are reasonable. I would recommend either Rio or São Paulo (as it is just a 1-hour flight to CNF, there are many flights per day, and many cities in the US have direct flights to these two cities). The internal flights to and from Belo Horizonte can be bought later according to your travel plans.
Prices from the US to Brazil can vary a lot depending on how you plan your trip. The price range varies from $1,000 to $2,000 (round trip). We advise you to buy your tickets on the airline's website because, in the event of problems, it is always easier to communicate with them than if you buy on an external site.
VISA: Starting from April 10th, 2025, passport holders from United States and Canada will require a visa for entry into Brazil. You can quickly and easy require your VISA in the website below:

THE CITY OF TIRADENTES (City of the Wedding)
The charming colonial town of Tiradentes is a popular destination for Brazilians. Every colorful shutter, every freshly painted building calls out for a photo. Every turn brings you to another photogenic view of cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and vibrant flowers against a blue mountain backdrop. Add to that a variety of fine restaurants, art galleries, handicraft shops, and walking paths, and you have yourself an irresistible destination.

TOP THINGS TO DO IN TIRADENTES:
Church of San Antonio – built in the 18th century, this grand church is visible from almost every corner of Tiradentes. Some 482kgs of gold were used decorating the church’s interior. It’s another church built by the sculptor Antonio Francisco Lisboa, also known as Aleijadinho, considered one of Brazil’s most important Baroque artists. The church is home to an organ which was brought over from Portugal in 1788.
Largo das Forras – this is Tiradentes’ town square, where you’ll find the City Hall as well as several craft stores, restaurants and pousadas. Interestingly, this is the square where slaves celebrated the abolition of slavery back in 1888.
Chafariz de São José (Fountain of St. Joseph) – built in 1749, this fountain is crumbling around the edges and feels a little forlorn. It’s surrounded by grass and trees, ideal for a picnic or for escaping the heat. It has three sections – one for drinking, one where the horses can take a sip and another for washing clothes.
Maria Fumaça Trem (Smoking Mary Steam Train) – inaugurated in 1881, this vintage steam train whisks you away to the nearby town of São João del Rei, winding through the Serra de São José mountains along the way. The train only runs Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Adult tickets cost R$43 one way, R$86 round trip, pensioner, student and youth concession (aged 6 – 12 years) – R$43 one way, R$86 round trip. Children aged under 6 are free – bring their birth certificate with you to prove their date of birth.
Cachoeira do Mangue (Mango Waterfall)– Take this well-posted, sometimes steep, walking trail to this shaded waterfall with a natural pool for swimming. The trail (Trilha do Mangue) starts at the end of Rua Frei Veloso, in Pacu neighborhood. View the start of the walking trail in Google maps.
BELO HORIZONTE (Bride's Hometown)
Belo Horizonte or BH (pronounced “Beaga”) is the 3rd largest city in Brazil in terms of population. It has between 3 and 5 million inhabitants depending on whether we count the administrative boundaries. It is the capital of the state of Minas Gerais (to give you an idea, it is approximately the size of Texas). It’s a fairly safe city, especially compared to Rio or Sao Paulo. However, it is always important to be careful.
Unfortunately, the town is not on the coast, so no beach day for us in BH.
No beach, but BH makes up for it with its number of bars and restaurants. It is said that it is the city in South America with the most bars (I don't know if that's true, you know how sometimes people are very proud of where they come from). On the other hand, I am certain of one thing: there is plenty to do. We will take you to the best places, so don’t worry.
Belo Horizonte (”Beautiful Horizon” in English) has its name because the landscape of the state is marked by mountains, valleys, and large areas of fertile land. Some of Brazil's most famous caves and waterfalls are located there. Moreover, Minas Gerais is the main producer of coffee and milk in the country and it is known for its heritage of architecture and colonial art in historical cities such as São João del-Rei, Ouro Preto, Diamantina, Tiradentes and Mariana. If you have some extra time it is worth it visiting some of these places on the way to the wedding.
Last but not least, Minas Gerais in general is known as the most gastronomic state in Brazil. There are plenty of typical foods and ingredients we don’t find in the US. So we will be happy to show you all of it!

OTHER INTERSTING DESTINATIONS IN BRAZIL
Brazil is larger than the continental US in area, so there are a lot(!!) of things to visit and see. Here is a summary of the most famous places per region, but the list can be endless. So if you wish to have another trip, we are happy to help you choose different places according to what you want to see and help you organize.
If you want to travel, it’s by flight or by car/bus. We recommend flying, unless your budget is tighter and you don't mind taking more time to travel. But feel free to ask us for any help and recommendations.
